Deep Rock Galactic: Equip Yourself Before You Upgrade Yourself
Quiet Mode: Gaming reflections from the pause menu of life
In Deep Rock Galactic, there is a moment before the drop pod launches when everything slows down.
The mission is locked in. The cave is chosen. The warnings are posted.
The game gives you a few seconds to stand between intention and action and ask a question that looks mechanical, but never really is.
What am I bringing into this mission?
Not in a philosophical way, at least not on the surface. It looks practical. Loadout screens. Weapons. Mods. Perks. Grenades. Armor tweaks. But anyone who has played long enough knows this is not about raw power. It is about fit and playstyle.
You can walk into a Hazard 4 mission with the highest damage numbers available and still fail miserably if the gear does not match how you play. I have done this multiple times when learning a new class. A weapon can be statistically superior and still feel wrong in your hands. A build can be optimized and still leave you disoriented when the swarm hits.
The game does not reward copying someone else’s loadout. It rewards knowing yourself.
